About the Alumni Panel Series
The Alumni Panel Series is designed to invite PharmTox alumni to share their career paths with current students in the Department. We hope to facilitate professional development among students and postdocs by connecting you with Pharmtox alumni working in diverse career fields.
We invite you to join us for our first event of the series, which will take place on Wednesday, Oct 20th from 6 PM – 7 PM over Zoom
About our Panelists
Dr. Kristel Bermejo | Medical Director, The Scienomics Group
Kristel received her undergraduate degree in pharmacology from the University of Toronto. She completed her MSc and PhD in pharmacology at the University of Toronto with a focus on neurodegenerative and psychiatric diseases. She has worked as a medical writer for 4 years and has developed slide decks, oral communications and training materials, as well as authored academic publications, meeting reports, a white paper newsletter, and a clinical study report. She has also been involved in the development and execution of speaker training programs and client-sponsored ambassador programs at international conferences.
Ms. Lina Darwish | Medical Writer, Pentavere Research Group Inc.
Lina completed her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience at Western University before attending the University of Toronto as an MSc student in Pharmacology. After graduating, she worked in pharmaceutical advertising for a year and developed marketing materials for some of the top pharmaceutical companies in the US and Canada. Seeking a change of pace, she joined Pentavere Research Group Inc., an AI startup based in Toronto. As a medical writer at Pentavere, she is responsible for publications and written materials developed to present study findings and highlight unmet needs in the field.
Miss Antonella Poon | Account Executive, Caudexve, Caudex
Antonella received her Honours Bachelor of Science with Distinction, Joint Specialist in Pharmacology & Biomedical Toxicology, and her Master of Science in Pharmacology, Collaborative Specialization in Musculoskeletal Sciences, at the University of Toronto. She comes with 4 years of collective experience in pharmacological research, teaching, and medical communications. Her research has focused on osteoporosis and cortical bone porosity related to differential expression of G-proteins. Her years of research and teaching experience combined with a strong pharmacological background allows her to quickly become knowledgeable and comfortable with new therapy areas and treatments. Antonella is interested in project and account management, organization, consulting, oral communications, publications, medical education, and clinical research. She continues to strive for excellence in all aspects of her work, in order to produce deliverables of the utmost quality.
Dr. Andy Zhu | Pharmacologist, Takeda Pharmaceutical Company
A native of Calgary, Alberta. Dr. Zhu received his BSc degree and PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of Toronto, Canada. He is currently the director of rare genetic diseases and hematology modeling group at Takeda Pharmaceuticals International in Cambridge. He and his team led the quantitative modeling and simulation efforts for a diverse portfolio of molecules spanning all stages of clinical development including FIH studies, dose range-finding studies, pivotal studies for regulatory approvals, and lifecycle management. Dr. Zhu has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications in the fields of drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamic, and modeling & simulation.
